Tessa & Chris

The first time I met Tessa four years ago, I noticed her beaming smile. She is one of the sweetest, most down to earth people I have ever met. I've always known her to be one to live life to the fullest and lend a helping hand whenever possible. In the last few years whenever I see Tessa, I also get to see her wonderful fiance Chris. Chris and Tessa have so much in common. They both have a passionate love for theater, music and the arts. Their time together is shared with love and laughter. These two were so much fun to photograph as they laughed their way through the day as we documented their "love story". They were not afraid to ride doubles on the moped or stick their toes in the icy water. Here are a few of my favorites from the session and I am looking forward to their August wedding.

JD and Stacy

I am so excited to be a part of the marriage celebration of JD and Stacy in July. These two are an incredible couple! Chris and I had a blast photographing their "love story" last Thursday. Stacy has about a million different facial expressions that she pulled out to keep JD's smile as big as it gets. These two started out knowing each other in high school, but their love story actually began 1,300 miles away from home. Now they are getting to share their love for each other with their family and friends this summer and I couldn't be more thrilled to be there to document their day! Thanks JD and Stacy!
Here are a few of my favorites from the session.

Danielle & Josh Engagments

Defining love is different for everyone. To me it is an emotion or feeling that is so powerful it makes your heart flutter. On Saturday Chris and I watched from behind our cameras the physical reactions of love take place between two people. Danielle and Josh were meant for each other. They both grew up in the Lead-Deadwood area but didn't find their love for each other until college in Minnesota. At the beginning of our session Danielle was so excited she seemed nervous. But Josh took her in his arms and held her close as we captured their moments as a couple. When Josh's eyes met Danielle's, her face would light up and she would smile back at him, Chris and I couldn't help but grin too. I loved it when Danielle would tug on Josh's shirt during the shoot, it seemed like she was trying to let him know that she was excited to be there with him at that moment without talking through the smiles. Josh could also make Danielle laugh with just a raise of the eye brows. It was easy to capture their love story when so many times I think they forgot we were there as they had a moment with each other between poses. Danielle and Josh are getting married on June 19th. It will be a beautiful time of year and I am so excited to work with them again. "Thank you for letting us capture your Love Story"

Trojanowski Family

This morning I had the pleasure of meeting the whole Trojanowski Family. Keith, Erin and baby Ryan! It was so much fun, Ryan is almost 4 months old now, and wasn't about to give me too many smiles. We had to work for his laughs today. Here is a sneak peak with more to come.

Spearfish, South Dakota, The best kept secret that we love to share

Why I love Spearfish

I love Spearfish! Although I have a great desire to travel and see the world, I always want to end up in Spearfish, South Dakota.
Every time Chris and I travel we compare every town and city to the one we love the most Spearfish. Spearfish is full of great people and great surroundings. There is plenty of hiking, swimming, skiing, great restaurants and bars, a wonderful school system and so much more. I love our crazy weather! Yesterday it was in the 60’s and all the snow had melted away, today the beautiful flakes of winter snow have shown they are not ready to leave and we have inches of the white stuff again. Our summers are my favorite, not usually too hot, but hot enough to wonder how it ever even does get cold enough to snow here. Every morning that I get to have coffee on my back porch I feel like I am on vacation, every time I get to photograph in this wonderful city I feel like I am home (In a very home sweet home kind of way).

Now Chris and I have always wanted to keep Spearfish our little secret from the world, but I’ve began to realize how proud I am of our town.
Recently Chris showed me a video on Spearfish, thanks to a You Tube post from “Joe Spearfish on facebook” and I was blown away on how wonderfully put together it was and I want everyone to see it.
